The Nishinomiya Bruins are an American football team from Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan, and play in the X2 division of the X-League. The team began in 1988 as a club of a dozen volunteers from the Hankyu Department Store. It was officially established the following year with the store’s sponsorship. In 1990, the team joined the X-League’s X2 division. They were promoted to X1 in 2002, finishing fifth in the West division with one win and four losses. After a winless 2004 season (0–5), they lost the X1-X2 replacement match and were demoted back to X2. In 2011, they topped the X2 West division (5–2) and beat the Fuji Xerox J-Stars 25–5 in the promotion game to return to X1. The Hankyu Department Store ended its sponsorship in 2012, leading to the team’s renaming as the Nishinomiya Bruins. That year, they finished sixth in X1 West (2–7) but survived the replacement match against the J-Stars with a 23–20 overtime win. They placed fifth in X2 West in 2013 (3–6) and sixth in X1 West in 2014 (3–6), again beating the J-Stars in the replacement game, 30–0.
